Perhaps it explains some areas with high rates of transmission but it's unlikely to explain everything. But it would be good to have high quality research instead of the sort of idle speculation that UNAIDS seems to prefer.Simonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13522180315970081603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8229878121183426722.post-44606252555845099982012-07-10T17:26:44.438+03:002012-07-10T17:26:44.438+03:00Could the huge differences in the HIV prevalence r...Could the huge differences in the HIV prevalence rates also be attributed to receptive anal sex?

Anal sex HIV risk misunderstood among heterosexuals

http://www.plusnews.org/Report/93032/HIV-AIDS-Anal-sex-HIV-risk-misunderstood-among-heterosexuals

Assessing the role of anal intercourse in the
epidemiology of AIDS in Africa

http://www.cirp.org/library/disease/HIV/brody2003/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8229878121183426722.post-74968811105150419252012-07-10T02:10:47.265+03:002012-07-10T02:10:47.265+03:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Dorispinto1001https://www.blogger.com/profile/14918682377942602853noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8229878121183426722.post-53709757856531541462012-07-08T13:59:18.001+03:002012-07-08T13:59:18.001+03:00Hi Anonymous, thanks for your comments, I think th...Hi Anonymous, thanks for your comments, I think the second comment makes some useful suggestions.

It's very hard to say what the relative contribution of sexual and non-sexual HIV transmission are. The figures and arguments presented here and elsewhere are a start, but there's no substitute for a proper investigation of possible outbreaks in healthcare facilities and an assessment of conditions with a view to improving them.

Also, DHS and similar data are not suitable for identifying possible outbreaks of non-sexually transmitted HIV. You'd need to identify times and places, whereas DHS data is a sample from a few places over a short period of time.Simonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13522180315970081603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8229878121183426722.post-88969249843967465742012-07-07T19:18:33.011+03:002012-07-07T19:18:33.011+03:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Alicehttp://www.weightlossplansinfo.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8229878121183426722.post-68842430477707698882012-07-07T16:05:53.493+03:002012-07-07T16:05:53.493+03:00Some scientists are insisting till now that 2/3rds...Some scientists are insisting till now that 2/3rds of HIV in Africa is spread through unsafe medical practices.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/feb/20/health.aids

Do women have a much higher HIV rate than men because they use hospitals much more (prenatal, maternity, postnatal)?

Do Luo men have a much higher HIV rate than other men because they use hospitals a lot due to malaria and other water-borne diseases?

The Kikuyu men lucky enough to live on the foothills of Mt Kenya never use hospitals because the water is uncontaminated (there are few or no people living upstream), there's no malaria, and they don't give birth.
